Drawing on interviews with the artists commissioned by Tate, Sarah Cook discusses the outcomes of the Lives of Net Art case study, on which she was the final academic research fellow. She elaborates on the main outcomes of the case study, contextualising the work done so far, and goes on to explore how the museum imagines the future for net art works – conceptually, technically and curatorially.
The paper offers an analysis of the politics of museums in online space and considers the institution’s capacity to care for, accommodate and acquire net art.
Cook’s paper is followed by a short Q&A session with members of the Reshaping the Collectible project team.
Sarah Cook is Professor of Museum Studies and Co-Director of the Digital Departures Lab at the University of Glasgow. From 2018 to 2021 Sarah was Senior Academic Fellow for Reshaping the Collectible: When Artworks Live in the Museum at Tate.
