She wanted to be a painter even as a child and went to study art at the ripe young age of sixteen. If that wasn’t cool enough, she also lived and worked in a house on the River Thames! She often painted in bright, vivid colours, and liked to contrast quirky things. Can you see how the table is painted both from the side and from the bottom at the same time? </span></p></section><section><h3>Perfect! With a belly full of diamond-like seeds, they are the life and soul of the party.</span></p><p><br/></p><p><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">This painting is by Elizabeth Blackadder. She is a Scottish painter and printmaker. Can you spot the pomegranate in this picture? For Elizabeth, empty space was also very important and you can see that in this picture. Although it is called Still Life with Pomegranates, a lot of the canvas is filled with space. As well as still lifes, Elizabeth Blackadder also loved to paint her cats! </span></p></section><section><h3>Wow! You’re a wacky watermelon!</h3><p></p><p><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">Like you, watermelons are unique and refreshing! Did you know they were 90% water? Watermelons have been around so long, they used to be put in the burial tombs of kings in Ancient Egypt!</span></p><p><br/></p><p><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">This painting is called ‘Child with a Water-Melon’ by Antoni Clavé, one of Spain’s most famous artists. He was also a costume designer, and his costumes have appeared on stages all over the world. This child must be very pleased to be tucking in to that melon! </span></p></section><section><h3>Check that! You’re a cheerful cherry!</h3><p></p><p><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">You’re the cherry on top of the cake! Like you, cherries are sweet and can make anybody’s day. The oldest cherry blossom tree in the world can be found in Japan and is nearly 2000 years old! </span></p><p><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34);"> </span></p><p><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">This photograph is by the German artist Uta Barth. She is interested in the peripheral (things near the edges), and her pictures often include just parts of the person – like here, we can only see the woman’s fingers and her eye.
