At lunchtimes you can be found skipping, playing tag or hopscotch – it doesn’t matter who wins!</p><p><br/></p><p>This artwork is by the painter Janet Ledger. She often paints pictures of people in industrial places. Here we can see children playing in <em>Play Street</em> – that’s a place we like the sound of! A dog is watching and we can see the smoke from the chimneys. We think this painting is full of movement and the energy of playing! Can you see how Ledger hasn’t used much colour? Small sections of red really make the children stand out.</p></section><section><h3>Grab your helmet – your arty sport is Cycling!</h3><p></p><p>Cycling is your perfect sport because you like to be in the healthy outdoors! On your bike you can see new things, go to new places, and you can do it on your own or with friends.</p><p><br/></p><p>This painting is called <em>Summer Eclogue No. 1 – Cyclists </em>by Robert Medley. An eclogue is another word for a poem, especially poems about the land or the countryside. Why do you think this painting has this title? Medley was a theatre designer at first, and very interested in the way our bodies move. We think the colours make this picture full of movement, and the people look like they’re having a great time on their bikes!</p></section><section><h3>Slip on your gloves – your arty sport is Boxing!</h3><p></p><p><span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);">You love to win when playing sports, but remember it's also important to have fun!</span></p><p><br/></p><p>This is a photo-etching by artist Susan Hiller. Photo-etching uses light-sensitive acid – you expose it to light and that makes an image! This one is called <em>The Fight </em>and shows two skeletons having a boxing match. They look like they are a mirror image of each other – so it probably doesn’t matter who wins! Susan Hiller is known for expressing herself in many materials. She uses installations, video art, audio work and even writing.</p></section><section><h3>Dreamy! Your arty sport is Dancing!</h3><p></p><p>Although you like to challenge yourself when playing sport, the most important thing is having fun! This is why you love to dance. You don’t mind where or when – you even break out your moves in the classroom!</p><p><br/></p><p>This is an illustration by William Blake. He drew this to accompany the play by William Shakespeare: <em>A Midsummer Night’s Dream</em>. Oberon and Titania, the Fairy King and Queen, are on the left, and the fairies are in the middle. This shows Titania talking to her fairies, and in the play she says: ‘Hand in hand, with fairy grace, Will we sing, and bless this place.’ This painting is from 1786, making it over 230 years old!
