Can you guess where the name comes from? Here's a clue: it's a great moustache to wear riding a bike. He was photographed in 1925 by a German photographer called August Sander who believed that photography should be used to show truthfully how things and people really look. He took lots of photographs of working people. This is a policeman. It doesn’t take much looking after – you’ll need to brush it occasionally but it pretty much just sits there doing its thing. He looks a bit proud and snooty in this picture doesn't he? Perhaps he's proud of his fine walrus moustache! Although this portrait is the earliest picture in Tate’s collection, painted over 450 years ago before bicycles were even invented, we think the moustache is timeless and will look great on you.
